About SMP Counseling Shakira M. Puello, LICSW, Owner
People are often exposed to stressors and or traumatic events that at times can unravel emotions that seem to consume us. During these times it seems hard to find the light at the end of the tunnel. My passion is to help people find this light, to help heal from their past trauma and move forward. I assist my clients; school aged children and young adults in finding and changing their negative distortions and identifying their strengths in order to help achieve a peaceful, happy and whole perception of themselves.
I am well versed in several therapeutic approaches such as Psychodynamic therapy, humanistic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavior therapy, Motivational interviewing and play therapy. I believe that each person and their situation is unique therefore the therapeutic approach I utilize will depend on their specific needs.
My educational background includes a Masters in Social Work and Bachelors in Social Work with a minor in Psychology through Salem State University in Salem, MA. My concentration is children and families with past experience as an in home therapist and therapeutic mentor. I am also a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
